Muscular Dystrophy (MD) is a neuromuscular disorder, a progressive, muscle wasting disease which can affect any race and all ages, from babies to adults. The disorder is usually inherited, but can also appear "out of the blue". As yet there is no cure. The majority of youngsters whom Tavistock Branch helps have a particularly severe form of MD - Duchenne MD - which usually affects boys. As a result they have a short life expectancy, sadly usually dying in their late teens / early twenties.
