Ball Clay information panel at Swansons, Newton Abbot, Devon

When the Swanson Motor Co. Ltd. opened a new Ford car showroom in Newton Abbot, Devon, the development included an old "Clay Cellar". These buildings were used to store Ball Clay from the nearby mines and quarries prior to transport by canal to the port of Teignmouth, downriver from the town.

Graphic Words was approached by the Ball Clay Heritage Society, who had agreed with Swansons that an information panel, about the history of the structure and the Ball Clay industry, could be mounted within the showroom on the wall of the historic building.

Working from information and photographs supplied by the Society, we designed and laid out a large, custom-sized (1600 x 800mm) panel for wall mounting, incorporating colour themes drawn from the Ford motors corporate livery. We produced the panel mounted on foamex board, with a u/v resistant laminate, and advised on the best techniques for mounting the panel at the site.
